How to use google navigation from out of supported countries ?

Ok, so you have an android device, you know that this device is from Google and heard of the Google map navigation. Just when you loaded up the map, you figured out that you can't use the navigation feature because you are not in the "supported" countries, what's more, you can't even update the software because it comes with the device itself. So you blame Google and bought an iPhone ...

While it seems a bit exaggerated about the last part on joining the apple camp, the stories foretells our disappointment over Google maps, its famous, free and useful. Its just doesn't work 100% as other countries. My solution for you this time is about the tweaked Google map.

Using your phone browser, go into the following URL

And download the latest Google maps modded version by Brut. You may need a file explorer like "ASTRO" to browse onto these apk files and execute to run and install the application.

You will most likely have 2 different Google maps on your device now but if you have root access, you can actually remove the original Google map altogether (please refer to the link above on how to do it).

Having a root device does have it's advantages if you choose to retain the original Google map, the reason was the ability to update your Google map to the latest version without a breaking a sweat.

The map that comes with your device are usually installed onto a protected area within your device (/system path). The applications within this area cannot be remove or modified without a root access. Therefore if you do have root and are able to remove the original Google maps, you later can reinstall the latest Google maps from the market into your standard installation location (which is not protected). This will give you the capability to update your Google maps easily as new versions are available in the market.
